What makes TikToks go Viral

What should you be focusing on when it comes to TikTok content? The honest answer is to be as organic as possible. TikTok users respond better to ads and campaigns that align with the presentation styles and formats of user clips in the app. We all have a sixth sense when it comes to spotting an ad, so the key to viral content is for users to never feel like they’re being sold to. A new study by SEMRush shows that 83% of viral TikTok’s came from non-verified accounts – so don’t be intimidated when you first start out, your blue badge will come soon, grasshopper!

Our advice from the data: Hacks, advice and wellness are increasingly popular with the algorithm. The top-performing sounds were Pop, Hip hop and Rap music so use them to your advantage!

TikTok Launches’ Creative Exchange’ Platform

TikTok are at it again! It makes it even easier for the Brand x Content Creator relationships to thrive with a new ‘Creative Exchange’ platform that enables brands to add a pitch brief. This is a space where creators can then respond and arrange sponsored content collaborations with ease.

This option is currently only available for brands with verified profiles.

Snapchat Launches Multi-Format Ad Placements

This launch into multi-ad placements will enable Snap’s automated tools to help maximise ad response while streamlining your Snap campaigns’ management by keeping your creative elements in a single ad set. Additionally, in theory, it should be more efficient as broader placements mean increased capacity for exposure, especially for awareness campaigns.

However, multiple formats can mean a reduction in control and lack of insight into some of the more specific elements reduce control and insight into distinct components. At the same time, it also puts increased responsibility on Snapchat to automate placements correctly.

Facebook continues its Battle with Apple Over Fees and strives for increased consumer-friendliness

As we know, Facebook – now Meta – is still not happy with Apple’s insistence on taking a 30% cut of fan subscriptions, along with any other in-app purchase. So, Facebook is taking a stand for consumers.

The significant new addition is a re-direct process that will aid creators in guiding subscribers to sign-ups for apps/websites outside of Facebook in order to avoid the 30% fee from Apple – steering users OFF their own site is pretty amicable as most platforms’ worst nightmare is the user leaving.

Instagram testing longer videos in stories

This one gets us super excited (especially our video editor!)  60-second videos in Stories will mean that longer video clips will no longer be split into 15-second segments and played across various Stories frames – influenced mainly by TikTok.

“We’re looking about how we can – not just with IGTV, but across all of Instagram – simplify and consolidate ideas because last year we placed a lot of new bets. I think this year we have to go back to our focus on simplicity and craft.” – Instagram chief Adam Mosseri

At Brandlective, we’re excited to see what this will mean for the data on ‘story skips’ and whether followers watch for longer with less temptation to skip to get the end of the story.

Twitter Launches joins the rest with Live-Stream Shopping Broadcasts

In last month’s Disruptor, we told you about Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest moving toward online shopping broadcasts. Now, Twitter is giving it a go too. Twitter’s reputation as an immediate, real-time platform is very enticing for retailers and their latest feature hopes to cash in on this, in the hopes of maximising eCommerce.

Twitter’s live-stream shopping enables users watching a company’s live broadcast to see shopping options displayed below the video. The presentation will tell users to either tune into the live tweet discussion or check out a ‘Shop’ tab, which features all the products highlighted in the broadcast. This allows Twitter users to buy what they are viewing in real-time.

YouTube Is Testing a New ‘Search Insights’ Tool to Help Guide Content

This feature is a gamechanger for content planning and trends. The new feature, ‘Search Insights’, will eventually be available in the Analytics/Research tab and it comes with two separate tabs for query research. The first tab will provide a listing of what your channel viewers are searching for – i.e. insights into what people who regularly view your content are also looking for on YouTube. On the second tab, ‘Searches Across YouTube’, you’ll be able to gain insight into the most common search queries based on any keyword – so if you wanted to know what the most common ‘how to’ searches are on the platform, you could enter ‘how to’ as a search term.

It could be a precious tool, along similar lines to Google’s Search Console and Google Trends, providing more insight into what’s driving your YouTube channel traffic and how you can optimise your content efforts to align with these trends.

Stay tuned, this feature is currently in the testing stages and is not yet live.

Google’s update for SEO

Core web vitals: Loading speed, interactivity and stability are all essential signals that Google looks at for on-page experience.

Mobile usability: Ensure that your website has no mobile usability errors to be ranked by Google as ‘Good’. The criteria for this include; avoiding using uncommon software such as Flash, using large fonts that ensure users can read easily without having to zoom in, the website content is adapted to different screen sizes and placing links far enough away from each other so that users can easily tap on the correct one.

HTTPS: If the ratio of HTTP to HTTPS is high, you’ll see a warning banner on your site. This is because HTTPS protects encryption, data integrity and authentication.

Intrusive interstitials: Minimise advertisements that will disrupt users’ ability to use the site with ease. This can come in three primary forms that Google look at:

If you think any of these features would help your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your Brandlective account manager!
