Have you worked hard to create great content but are getting frustrated by the lack of engagement? It seems as though every business is on social media, and with newsfeed algorithms dictating most of what is seen (paid adverts!), or not seen (your content?), it’s getting harder to be heard, or seen.
On top of this, it is estimated that there will be approximately 2.77 billion worldwide social media users by 2019… gulp.
So – If you feel like your content is suffering from this, going unnoticed, or not having the impact it should – then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve created 5 snackable tips that you can implement to boost engagement and raise brand awareness TODAY!
1) Be Visual
As humans, we are visual, and that attraction to visual content translates into social media. Research has discovered that using graphics or images has significant benefits for social media by garnering traction and engagement. The use of imagery can result in an 85% interaction rate on Facebook and a boost of 35% in retweets on Twitter.
On LinkedIn, 98% of posts with images receive more comments. There is a multitude of free platforms that companies can use to communicate through imagery and graphics, so companies both big and small have no excuse! Have a browse on Canva for curated images, and Unsplash for stunning stock free imagery to get started!
2) Start a conversation
One simple and effective way to drive engagement on a social media platform is to ask followers and audience questions. The questions can be anything; content ideas, their thoughts and opinions on topics, or something general like their plans for the weekend. Twitter polls and the questions plugin for Instagram stories are great at this!
3) Link to other sites
Social media is all about sharing. Linking to other sites can prove to be hugely beneficial for social media networks. For example, linking to the company blog or press release is a great way to gain more links to a website, increase brand awareness and establish credibility.
On LinkedIn, posts with links have a 200% higher engagement rate. Careful not to get into Linkedin Jail, though. Yes – jail….
4) Repurpose Your Content
As mentioned in previous blogs, repurposing can be hugely effective. Numerous social media platforms reach different demographics. Therefore brands can repurpose content to fit the audience of each platform. Simples.
The idea behind repurposing is to use the same content to reach different audiences across different platforms. 32% of teenagers consider Instagram to be the most important social network. 38% of female Internet users are more like to use Instagram at 38% compared to 26% for men. Those statistics on Instagram alone show the different demographics.
These differences in target audience allows brands to repurpose content. For example, posting a must-read list on LinkedIn and converting that to an image for sharing on Instagram!
5) Show Your Personality
Online audiences want to see the personality behind the brand. One way for companies to communicate personality on social media platforms is to publish pictures of team events, as it illustrates company culture. It can also be useful to publish a short introduction to the key players in the business, putting a face to the brand.
Share your tips, opinions, point of view on platforms that give you authority, or write your own blog posts. Post tips on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Even if you don’t feel like an expert, remember that the majority of people don’t know what you know – and the act of sharing that knowledge or idea set with confidence and your unique point of view will help brand you as a straight-up maverick!
