We understand that everything we do has an impact on the world around us and therefore strive to find smart, achievable and measureable steps to ensure we are making those impacts in a positive way.
Here at Brandlective, we are immensely proud to be affiliated with B1G1’s giving initiative.
Channeling the inspirational slogan, ‘Business for Good,’ they aim to create a network of socially conscious businesses that actively aspire to counteract some of the world’s most crippling socio-economic issues through positive change. We believe that no matter the size of a business there will always be a way to be socially responsible and make an impact for good.
As a team, in 2017 we discussed how we would like to make an impact in the world. It was a difficult question and over a period of weeks we uncovered deep connections to some of the most challenging global issues. We discovered we are all passionate about supporting The UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) that cover all of the core social and economic inequalities that are plaguing some of the world’s poorest nations and preventing their citizens from gaining equal opportunity in life. The United Nations aim to have these international goals fulfilled by 2030, along with the help of affiliated businesses.
Some of these problems seem so big, how can we as a small business even begin to make an impact? We discovered B1G1, who are completely aligned with our values and have created a way for us to make small impacts each and every day.
Here are the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and their explanation for what each goal aims to achieve:

17) Partnerships for the goals

Although we believe in the importance of every one of The UN’s SDGs, we have taken a particular affinity to global goal number ten – reduced inequalities. As advocates of diversity and equal opportunity, we believe that everyone has the right to access education and development opportunities. With the aim of reducing inequality within and among countries, goal ten seeks to ensure that the international community is elevated from poverty. It also tries to make sure that economic, social and environmental obstacles are nonexistent for every citizen wanting to live an enriched and fulfilled life.
With the reduced inequalities goal, The UN accepts that there needs to be stringent universal policies in place that helps people understand the needs of disadvantaged communities. And although there has been some positive change in income inequality between different countries, inequality within countries has increased. This is echoed in some of the astonishing facts and figures below;
- More than 75 percent of the world’s population are living in societies where income is more unequally distributed than it was in the 1990s.
- In a global survey conducted by UN Development Programme, policymakers universally accepted that inequality in their countries is generally high and potentially a threat to long-term social and economic development.
- Evidence from developing countries shows that children in the poorest 20 percent of the populations are still up to three times more likely to die before their fifth birthday than children in the richest quintiles
For our team, having a strong sense of achievement and contribution to a greater good has had a positive effect on our company culture and engagement. Endless studies tell us that millennials, in particular, are motivated by companies that hold strong ethical stances when it comes to corporate social responsibility.
This is perfectly demonstrated in the below statistics gathered from the 2016 Cone Communications Millennial Engagement Study:
- 76 percent of millennials consider a company’s social and environmental commitments when deciding where to work
- 64 percent won’t take a job if a potential employer doesn’t have strong social responsibility practices
- 83 percent would be more loyal to a company that helps them contribute to social and environmental issues
But for us, it’s not just about enticing and engaging socially conscious millennials. Our partnership with B1G1 has inspired us to revisit our own core values that combine our passion and entrepreneurial spirit. These values keep us motivated to maintain a positive and nurturing company culture while providing an exceptional service to all of our clients.
